Transforming Trajectories of Vulnerability: Re-examining Educational Achievement (2TV)

1. Provide a transdisciplinary networking space for 2TV participants to engage in international research focused on transformative practice in education and public policy that enable researchers to understand cycles of vulnerability.
2. Provide a networking space for Early Career Researchers (ECRs) to develop research skills: understand the funding landscape, knowledge exchange, collaborative international practice, and career development.
3. Establish effective research partnerships between 2TV participants to conduct research around conceptualising innovative pathways to disrupt cycles of vulnerability internationally (e.g., utilising web-based learning) to develop resilience & structural, economic and policy disruptors which support and empower vulnerable young people.

A transdisciplinary research focus is required to support the transformative practice in education and public policy that can disrupt cycles of vulnerability which limits educational achievement in Brazil, and across the world. In Brazil, the pendulum swings all too often from one extreme to the other as investments in education wax and wanes. Evidence informed practices which demonstrate sustained impact need to be prioritised to ensure young people can escape the vicious cycle of vulnerability which stifles their ability to access education and support.

Each tangible artefact created during 2TV will be used to frame plausible pathways to achieving the objectives of 2TV’s and develop grant applications for further research. The impacts of the workshop will include:

• Develop CSOs capability to expand effective educational provision and activities in-situ; improving their capability to deliver quality education, test the utility of resources & organise/mobilise other actors.
• ECRs will develop skills, expertise, and experience by collaborating on grants with the teams on 2TV, developing research capabilities & expanding pipeline of viable researchers in Brazil and the UK.
• Target populations will benefit from strategic interventions – greater access to educational activities, particularly through web-based/virtual collaborative learning pedagogies and wider outreach by CSOs because of funding opportunities. This will influence both social and economic metrics overall.
• Policy makers can utilise evidence base to develop targeted and effective policies, which have operational viability for vulnerable young people

• Collaboration of 50 Transdisciplinary researchers from across the UK and Brazil, and stakeholders from Corporate Social Organisations.
• Collaborative research groups.
• Tangible artefacts from each day of workshop – mind maps, potential research questions, list of possible educational resources, summaries of day’s activities.
